Any style of table can be commissioned. We present our collection in 4 groups on 4 separate gallery pages, The first is the more popular group of 7ft pool tables which are featured with, chunky 5 inch wide legs. The second is the group of 6ft pool tables which are featured with more appropriate and stylish 4 inch wide legs. The third group includes presentation of a 5ft pool tables for those who want a competition style table but are restricted on space. In addition we present a separate gallery page to featuring our selection of the outdoor pool tables made from pine Information on PINE pool tablesAll tables are designed and constructed and finished by us. The main furniture parts are machined for us by TK Turnings of Lincolnshire and all other pine elements are supplied to our specifications by Chandlers Ford Timber. Both are long established trade suppliers of quality and selected pine. Tables are in normally built by us on site, although we offer the option of self-collection on the smaller tables. We also offer the added option option of self-finishing or finishing by a third party Pine is an excellent and under-utilised material for making pool tables and undersized snooker tables, particularly when a single slab of slate is used (larger tables use sectional, thicker slate for which seasoned hardwoods hardwoods are normally used). These are some points in favour of pine:
●
pine is ecologically sustainable
unlike many furniture-quality
hardwoods Choices on pine pool tables for saleWe are able to to make-up pine pool & snooker tables to any design. For simplicity of presentation we set out the main preliminary choices:
● playing-sizes: 5ft, 6ft 7ft
or 8ft (plus all intermediate
measurements) Pockets and ball retrievalFor both upper-frame options bag-nets are normally used. These drop below the frame when game is in play and can be tucked-under, out of site, when a diner top in in place. The size of the bag nets can be varied although a standard size will be sufficient for pool or 10-reds snooker. If preferred, ball-rail sets can be fitted as a permanent ball-drop capture. We also make tales with a gully boot system (capture 4-balls) or a bucket pocket system (captures unlimited balls). These ball-drop methods are more suited to American pool. The method of ball capture is critical both to the enjoyment of the game and the aesthetics (particularly for diners) and generates an array of design combinations. Whilst we are able to construct outdoor pool tables with an under-belly ball return (using gullies feeding into a central return point) we believe such a system increases the risk of water retention and will require much more maintenance than the free-flow of an exposed and open bag-net. All in all, we recommend these issues are fully researched by those interested in buying a table of any type. Table legs and sub-frameA choice of 4 x 4inch square or 4 x 4 inch turned legs will adequately support 5ft or 6ft tables. For the 7ft or 8ft tables a set of 4 x 5inch square or 4 x 5 inch turned legs are used (although 6 x 4 inch legs can be used). The depth of the sub-frame is normally determined by dining function (to allow leg room a shallow frame with additional internal support is used). Levelling an outdoor pool tableIf the table is to be set on a concrete or hard base then the levelling is no different to that of an indoor table. With the wider legs, traditional shims (flat discs or squares of thin plastic or cardboard) are used to pack the underside of the table legs to reach a balance. This is the usual method of levelling snooker tables. The alternative is to fix metal or plastic adjustable feet levellers. These conical supports are more associated with pub-type pool tables. If the ground is not stable or if the table is to be set on a lawned area then a slate bed table is redundant. An exterior-ply bed is considerably lighter and allows for more manoeuvrability. shim levelling is also redundant History of PINE outdoor pool tablesWe began making pool and snooker tables in our Bournemouth factory in the early 90's. We used solid pine because it was a cheap and easily obtained material and provided an opportunity to upgrade from the limited choice of children's and foldaway tables that were then available within the affordable domestic market. We now concentrate on bespoke commissions for outdoor use and, because of the current interest in painted pine kitchen furniture, on indoor tables for coordinated open-plan living. end of pine section |
